WHAT COMES IN THE BOX?
The Sun Home sauna blanket is neatly packed inside a black carrier bag. The carrier bag comes with a shoulder strap that makes it easy to take the blanket on the road if you have to travel. It’s also great for storing the blanket and keeping it safe when it’s not in use.
You will also find a control unit, connection leads, and a user manual. The control unit has two leads attached. One connects to the electrical socket in your wall. The other connects to a socket at the bottom of the blanket.
The user manual contains everything you need to get up and running. It covers everything you need to know about safety instructions, getting started, controller operation, and cleaning and storing.
PROS
What are the pros of the Sun Home sauna blanket? Let’s take a look at the key advantages of the blanket.
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
The main pro of the Sun Home infrared sauna blanket is its all-round stellar performance. It is easy to use, generates lots of infrared heat, and we found it great for relaxation, pain relief, and workout recovery. It provides all-round body heating and has an operating range of 95-167 °F (35-75 °C).
DEEP PENETRATING HEAT
The blanket is great for deep penetrating far infrared heat. If you want to heat your core, loosen tight muscles, and ease joint pain – this product is a great choice. When you get wrapped up inside you will experience 360-degree, all-round heat from shoulder to toes.
RAPID HEATING TIME
The blanket heats up incredibly quickly. It reaches a comfortable 50 °C in just 5 minutes. And, it will reach its maximum temperature of 75 °C in 15 minutes. This allows you just enough time to prepare and change into suitable clothes for your session.
GREAT INVESTMENT
The Sun Home sauna blanket is a highly affordable way of adding an infrared sauna device to your home. It is one of the most competitively priced sauna wraps on the market. And, it’s a small fraction of the price of an infrared sauna cabin.
BUILD QUALITY
The Sun Home sauna blanket is incredibly well made. The build quality and attention to detail are noticeable from the very first moment you unbox the blanket. It is made using non-toxic, durable, polyurethane and a carbon fiber heating element. Treated well it will last you many years.
LOOKS GREAT
There’s no getting away from the fact that the blanket looks great. The manufacturer has given it a great finish and there is clear attention to detail. It has a sleek modern appearance and is available in a range of colors – purple and red, black and blue, and blue zebra.
DURABILITY
The blanket is made from strong-feeling, non-toxic, polyurethane. It feels durable when you roll it out and climb inside. If handled carefully and treated with care it should provide you with many years of service.
CONS
What are the cons of the Sun Home sauna blanket? Below we take a look at the disadvantages.
ONE PERSON USE ONLY
The Sun Home sauna blanket is designed for single-person use. It can only be used by one person at a time. If you are looking for a sauna that can be shared and enjoyed with others at the same time – you will have to purchase multiple blankets or invest in a cabin sauna.
REPEATED SET UP
The blanket requires repeated set-up. It is essentially a portable sauna device and unless you are going to dedicate a space in your home – it will require repeated setup. This means you will have to roll it out before you use it and pack it away when you’re done.
NO PERMANENT LOCATION
Unlike a cabin-style sauna, a sauna blanket has no permanent location. They are lightweight portable devices that can be packed away when not in use. This means it has no permanent location in your home – unless you intend on a dedicated space for it.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
Next up in our Sun Home sauna blanket review we take a look at how the blanket is made – the materials used and the quality of workmanship. And, the great news is this blanket is very well made.
NON TOXIC POLYURETHANE
When you first unpack it and roll it out you will be struck by the quality of the materials and sleek workmanship. The blanket has a soft-to-touch, smooth feel. It’s made from durable, non-toxic, low-VOC, waterproof polyurethane. It feels like it will last many years if treated with care.
CARBON FIBER HEATING ELEMENT
The blanket uses a single zone heating configuration. Infrared heat is generated using a carbon fiber heating element that is located inside the walls of the blanket. Heat is generated throughout the entire interior surface area of the blanket – providing 360-degree coverage from shoulder to foot level. This means you will experience heat from above, below, and from the sides.
DIMENSIONS
The blanket measures 71” x 71” inches (180 x 180 cm) when it is opened out. That means it is 5′ feet and 11” inches long. Bear in mind, your neck and head will remain on the outside of the blanket – so it is designed to only cover from shoulder to feet. It has an interior circumference of 65” inches when in use.
STYLISH DESIGN & GREAT FINISH
The Sun Home sauna blanket has a stylish and sleek design. It is available in three color options – black and blue, purple and red, and blue zebra. We got our hands on the black and blue trim model and we were very happy with how it looked and the level of attention to detail.
SAUNA BLANKET PERFORMANCE
To test performance for this Sun Home sauna blanket review we put the device through its paces. We ran it at a range of temperatures within its operating range and measured its performance. The results were impressive.
OVERVIEW
We found it great for deep penetrating heat, easing tense muscles, and for the temporary relief of joint pain. At the lower setting, it works well for rest and relaxation. And, the blanket heats up rapidly so there’s no hanging around waiting for it to be ready – more on this below.
FAR INFRARED LIGHT ENERGY
The blanket generates heat using a carbon fiber heating element to generate far infrared heat (FIR). The heating element is woven into the walls of the blanket. It has an impressive 500-watt power rating, heats up rapidly, and will have you sweating in no time.
INTENSE HEAT
We found it had seasoned sauna users experiencing an intense sweat inside 10 minutes. If you are looking for a powerful sauna blanket that heats up quickly – this could be the one for you. When the blanket is running at high temperatures it will be hot to touch on the outside.
TEMPERATURE RANGE
The Sun Home infrared sauna blanket has an impressive temperature range. Using the controller you can set the temperature anywhere between 35-75 °C – within 5 °C increments. This works out at 95-167 °F. If you are new to saunas and sauna blankets you should start low and gently work your way up if you feel comfortable doing so.
HEAT-UP TIMES
Before you use your sauna blanket, you’ll need to preheat it. See below for an overview of how long you’ll need to wait to reach your preferred temperature setting.
- 5 minutes – 122 °F
- 6 minutes – 131 °F
- 8 minutes – 140 °F
- 10 minutes – 149 °F
- 12 minutes – 158 °F
- 15 minutes – 167 °F
HOW TO USE
Now that we know how the blanket works let’s take a look at how to use it. It’s an incredibly easy blanket to use and requires no complex installation. You can roll it out and set it up in minutes. And, it heats up quickly. The Sun Home sauna blanket is a great option for people with a busy lifestyle.
The Sun Home infrared sauna blanket is very easy to use. You’ll have it set up in 2-3 minutes. The first thing you need to do is roll it out and hook up the leads.
POSITION THE BLANKET
Roll the blanket out on a flat heat-resistant surface, (such as tiles), to prevent damage. You can place a yoga mat or towels beneath for additional cushioning and comfort. The outside of the blanket gets hot-to-touch at the higher temperature settings so avoid placing it on anything that can be damaged by heat.
CONNECT LEADS AND POWER ON
Once the blanket is in place, connect the power lead to an electrical socket. Then connect the other lead to the socket at the foot of the blanket. When the leads are securely in place, power the device on by pressing the power button.
USE A PILLOW & TOWELS
Some people like to place a towel inside and a pillow at head height for comfort. The towel will provide some welcome cushioning and it will help absorb sweat and keep your sauna blanket clean. You can even use a specially made sauna blanket insert for maximum comfort.
SET THE TEMPERATURE
Use the controller to set the temperature. By pressing the temperature button you can select a temperature between 35-75 °C (95-167 °F). Each time you press the button it will change the temperature by 5°C. If you are new to sauna blankets it is recommended you start low. Aim for a temperature of no higher than 50 °C to begin. Then, slowly work your way up if you feel comfortable doing so.
PREPARE YOURSELF
While the blanket is heating up you should get yourself ready for your sauna session. You will need to be completely covered from neck to toe once inside the blanket. This means you will need to wear a long-sleeved top, full-length bottoms, and a pair of socks. Choose something loose-fitting and breathable. Grab a bottle of water and leave it within reach before you climb inside.
SET THE TIME
Before you jump in, you’ll need to set a time for the duration of your sauna session. You can choose any time between 30-60 minutes. The time setting allows you to set a time using 5-minute increments, for example, 30, 35, 40, 45 – up to 60.
Note, you can switch the blanket off or climb out at any time if you decide to finish your sauna before the session time has elapsed. You should never stay inside a sauna blanket beyond what feels comfortable.
ENJOY YOUR SAUNA SESSION
Now you’re ready to go. Once your blanket has heated up just carefully climb inside and shimmy yourself into position. Then fold the blanket back over yourself – just like a sleeping bag. Use the velcro patch to secure the closure. Then, just lie back, relax, and enjoy your session.
FINISH UP
When you’re finished, climb out. Switch the controller off and unplug it from the electrical power source. Then, unplug the lead from the blanket. Leave the blanket in its open position to cool down and air dry. For cleaning instructions – see below. Once the blanket has cooled and dried you can fold it back up, put it in its carrier bag, and pack it away until next time.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
Next up in our Sun Home sauna blanket review – we need to take a look at the cleaning and maintenance requirements. How do you clean the blanket after you’ve used it? And, are there any special maintenance requirements?
CLEANING
The blanket should be cleaned after each use or as often as you feel is necessary. Outside of cleaning, there are no special maintenance requirements you will need to take care of.
The blanket is made from waterproof, non-toxic polyurethane. It can be cleaned using a gentle soap, a 3:1 water to vinegar mixture, or a standard household multi-purpose cleaner. Don’t spill any liquid on the controller unit as it is not waterproof. Avoid using alcohol, bleach, or corrosive cleaners as these will damage the blanket material.
STORAGE
You must wait for the blanket to cool down before folding it up. When not in use the blanket should be folded up and packed inside its carrier bag for protection. You can place the controller unit, leads, and manual in the carrier bag alongside the blanket. The blanket should be stored in a cool, dry place and kept away from flammable and corrosive chemicals or materials. To prevent damage, do not place any heavy objects on the blanket.
