Lyme disease is an illness caused by a bacterial infection. It is usually transmitted by the bite of an infected tick. The ticks can be found in areas populated by deer and sheep, amongst other animals.  Most people who get Lyme disease develop a red circular rash around the site of the tick bite.

The rash will usually appear within the first four weeks following the initial bite but can develop as late as 3 months after the bite. 

However, this red rash does not appear in all cases. Some people just develop flu-like symptoms – temperature, muscle and joint pain, headaches, and a loss of energy.

The initial treatment for the illness is a course of antibiotics. Most people will recover following this treatment. 

However, some people go on to develop a long-lasting chronic condition with symptoms including – aches, tiredness, and loss of energy, that can last for years.

It is not understood why some people develop these prolonged symptoms while others recover and return to full health.

Most people who enjoy infrared sauna like to take anywhere from 2 – 4 sessions each week. It really is up to the individual.

Experienced users will be used to taking regular sessions. Beginners however should start out low and gradually work their way up.

It is recommended that a beginner takes just 1 or 2 sessions per week. This gives the body time to adjust and become used to the environment of the infrared sauna. Listen to your body and be careful not to overheat or become dehydrated during a session.

It’s best to start low and work your way up. Beginners should aim for just 1-2 sessions per week, while experienced users could do as many as 3-4 per week.


The duration of a session varies from one person to the next and should be determined by how long an individual feels comfortable in a sauna. Fluids will be lost through sweat and these should be replaced to avoid becoming dehydrated. Drink plenty of water or other suitable rehydration fluid to make sure dehydration doesn’t set in.


Do not wear any jewellery when inside the sauna. Jewellery can become very hot and can burn or damage the skin. 


Allow time for your body to completely cool down after the session and return to its ambient temperature. A cool shower can be a refreshing way of prompting cool down post sauna.
